How Demi Lovato plans to fight her way back to sobriety

Demi Lovato (26) was rushed to the hospital on July 24, as she reportedly overdosed drugs. The Los Angeles Fire Department confirmed that they received a call at 11:22 a.m. that day for a medical emergency and transported a singer to a hospital. There had been rumors that Demi overdosed on heroin, but one of her friends denied that. The American star has opened up about her struggles with sobriety, an eating disorder and being bipolar some time ago. Now she is fighting her way back to recover.

Demi confessed that she first tried cocaine as a 17-year-old Disney celebrity and she "loved it." She said "I was going to the airport and I had a Sprite bottle just filled with vodka. It was just nine in the morning, and I was throwing up in the car, and this was just to get on a plane to go back to L.A. to the sober living house that I was staying at. I had all the help in the world, but I didn't want it."

"Everyone has been urging her to get help with her life coach, and to seek treatment again. but Demi thought she could handle it on her own" a source revealed

Demi Lovato is seriously ill

A few years ago she received her diagnosis - bipolar disorder along with substance abuse, bulimia, and anxiety. It was so serious that it led her to self-harm

The disease she has is really severe and she has struggled for a long time to be in control of her body

She believed in the myth of moderation and controlled consumption but it definitely doesn't work if you are an addict

Demi Lovato wants to recover

She finally realized how extreme her situation is. She said on Instagram "What I've learned is that this illness is not something that disappears or fades with time. It is something I must continue to overcome and have not done yet"

After her discharge from Cedars-Sinai on August, 4, she went straight to a treatment center. She met with a therapist who specializes in sobriety, mental health, and wellness. Luckily, she has no intentions of leaving it.

"She will be in rehab for several months and is doing an extensive program to ensure she gets the help she needs" source said

She was frightened that she was so close to losing her life and grateful to be alive so she is taking her recovery incredibly seriously

She has been open about her recovery for a long time and she didn't shy away from even the most humiliating of details

According to the source, "She wants to make a statement to fans, family and friends that she is strong and can recover"

Demi Lovato can count on her friends

She was lucky to have family and friends around who supported her in her battle

She was hanging out with Hailee Steinfeld, "super chill" Ariana Grande and Iggy Azalea who "doesn't drink or party"

And of course. longtime friend Nick Jonas, they've been close their entire lives

"I have my core group, and they're the type of people that will be there for me in the middle of the night" the singer said

But taking into account all the dealers other unhealthy influences who appeared in her life, Demi's mom and management team "have made sure that she has cut ties with all of her friends right now. She hasn't been in communication with anyone and is really focusing on herself"

"The family is trying to make sure they eliminate all distractions and want her to be focusing on her health right now" source explained

"I now need time to heal and focus on my sobriety and road to recovery," she wrote in her Aug. 5 Instagram post

"The love you have all shown me will never be forgotten and I look forward to the day where I can say I came out on the other side. I will keep fighting."
